This book focuses on the family of Captain William Wilkins (1746-1807), who served with American Patriot forces during the Revolutionary War, and also his ancestors who settled in Virginia early in the 17th century. It covers in detail the origins of William's direct ancestor, Andrew Wilkins, who came from England to Virginia c1630. AND THERE'S MUCH MORE:
A LIFETIME OF WORK, COMBINED WITH REVELATORY NEW DISCOVERIES BROUGHT BY GENETIC SCIENCE
After DECADES of research and years of preparation, this new edition of the Wilkins family history is finally completed. It is also fully illustrated, with more than sixty photographs, maps and original documents shown. In the First Edition (2007), a few erroneous "facts" found in the best historical sources available (published from 1911 through 1934) made a full and accurate telling of the family history impossible. But the errors in those sources have now been discovered and rooted out. This was made possible in large part by the findings of DNA science. Through the genetic testing of living family descendants (from Tennessee to Australia), the authentic history of our Wilkins family is now known. Now, finally, DNA SCIENCE and also MANY ORIGINAL COLONIAL ERA DOCUMENTS have clarified the family's line of descent directly from the original emigrant ancestor Andrew Wilkins (1608-1648). The family's origins in Britain have also been covered at length.

The book's cover is shown above, with an illustration representing William Wilkins wearing the standard hunting shirt outfit, his wartime "uniform."
ABOUT THE AUTHOR, AND HIS DECADES-LONG EFFORT LEADING TO THE CREATION OF THIS BOOK:
Making his first inquiries into the family history while still in his teens, the author has spent virtually his entire life gathering information and family documents. After scouring numerous libraries and state archives--- literally from coast to coast--- he went on to hire professional genealogists, who unearthed an even greater trove of original 17th, 18th and 19th century documents, making it possible to complete this exhaustive work.

At last--- FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MORE THAN A CENTURY OF ACCUMULATED RESEARCH--- EVERY GENERATION of the family of William Wilkins is now KNOWN and carefully DOCUMENTED in Virginia and the Carolinas.
After more than a century in Virginia, young William Wilkins' family made the move to North Carolina. (This book is the very first publication to describe in detail their migration from Virginia into the Carolinas.) Again for the first time, all of this is proved with original 18th century colonial documents, which are precisely identified in the chapter bibliographies. (In additon to this, the family's original North Carolina land grant documents are fully reproduced as illustrations in the book.)
Later, in South Carolina, William Wilkins was awarded an official land grant in the name of King George III. (This original document is also shown in the book.) Just a few years after that, he fought for American independence in the Revolutionary War--- being involved in some of the most vicious fighting in the entire United States. (His war record is covered meticulously in the book, with documents cited.)
William Wilkins and his wife, Elizabeth Terrell Wilkins, had 16 CHILDREN and MORE THAN 80 GRANDCHILDREN. Which begs the question: ARE YOU ONE OF WILLIAM WILKINS' COUNTLESS DESCENDANTS?
At the time of the Revolutionary War, William Wilkins and his family were residing in a county of South Carolina called Ninety-Six District. For various reasons made clear in the book, (as mentioned above) this county experienced the most intense fighting of the entire war. William Wilkins was a part of that. A vague idea of the situation in Ninety-Six District can be seen in the film, The Patriot, starring Mel Gibson. Ironically, a character in that film called "Captain Wilkins" had joined the Loyalist (Tory) troops who were fighting for the King of Great Britain. However, the REAL Captain William Wilkins was actually fighting with Patriot forces for American independence from British rule. THIS BOOK TELLS THE TRUE STORY OF THE REAL CAPTAIN WILKINS (1746-1807).
